Born at Brighton, England, John read music at Reading University where he studied piano with Erik Parkin and the art of conducting with Brian Fawcett. In 1998, he left England for Paris where in 1991 he became the assistant conductor to the "Choeur d'hommes François Legrand". Since 1996, he has held the post of principle conductor of Mélo'Men, with whom he has made numerous tours in France and abroad. In 2000, his work was awarded with the first prize in the "coup de choeur" competition, and he was appointed choral conducteur for a production of the 'Barber of Seville' in Nîmes and Narbornne Opera. In 2002, he was named as conductor of the "Rainbow Symphony Orchestra" in Paris. In 2003, he founded the 'Ensemble vocal Borromée', which was invited to sign in front of the Hôtel de Ville in Paris, to celbrate the 59th anniversary of the liberation of Paris. He was also invited to conduct Mélo'Men at the Paris Lido, the Palais des Congrès and the French Assembly. In May of this year, Mélo'Men participated in the Opera 'The Tales of Hoffmann' (Offenbach) with the chorus of the "Orchrestre de Paris" and the "Consort de Paris". The performance took place in Paris-Bercy and were directed by Jêrome Savary, conducted by Jean-Claude Casdesus. John conducting has frequency led him abroad,notably in Australia, Canada, Germany, Great-Britain, Italy, Switzerland and the United States, and he has also appeared as accompanist, in particular with Gay Marshall in the show 'if I were me'. As composer, he has written a musical, 'Dracula', and numerous vocal compositions and arrangements. Meanwhile, his incidental music for Shakespeare's 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' will be premiered in Le Peq. |
